Thanks to Gem Architects, this Greek Residence in Filothei, Athens, will inspire your own design endeavors. With three stories to encompass the necessary living spaces, this residence was designed to be a play of volumes and voids that create covered terraces. Carved volumes shape all four facades and corner windows give the house a contemporary look while allowing shades, voids and volumes to contribute to the fantastic architecture. The amount of rain and direct sunlight is controlled with the help of these architectural details. Materials used for building the house also play a huge role in defining the design – black lava stone and thin wooden louvered details intensify the separation of volumes and voids. The interior spaces are naturally ventilated and ideally shaded and the final touch was the adding of a green roof that insulates the house. Interiors are open and bright, with double-height ceilings above the beautiful piano, large sliding doors that connect the exterior to the interior and seamlessly designed spaces that encourage a modern lifestyle.

I.e. a donut will remain topologically a donut if you twist and distort it, it will only change topologically if it is cut.
