This video shows an interview with a world’s famous architect Bjarke Ingels. He is a principal of BIG, based in Copenhahen architectural practice and an alumnus of Rem Koolhaas’ OMA practice. Ingels takes an approach: experimenting with pure space, but never losing sight of the building as a solution to a real-world problem. His manifesto “Yes is more” takes the form of a giant cartoon strip, 130 meters long, that reminds people to keep thinking big – to see all our modern problems as challenges that inspire us. His deals with deeply-thought-out and often rather large works – including several skyscrapers and mixed-use project in a developing section of Copenhagen. His most famous works include: the Stavanger Concert House, Tallinn’s city hall and the VM Houses. During the interview, Ingels speaks about his recent project of West 57th Street Residential Building.

Forked tree branches framing this house in southeast Australia were intended by architect Paul Morgan to resemble the sun-bleached kangaroo and sheep bones scattered around the surrounding woodland. Positioned amongst the trees, the wooden cabin provides a weekend retreat for a small family and contains a living room and kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. Paul Morgan Architects wrote about this project: The project is a small cabin in Victoria’s Central Highlands. The clients are medical practitioners/ academics with a daughter attending university. The brief included a living area, small kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms. They asked for a small forest cabin in which they could practice choral signing. They desired a small habitat that connected them with the isolation one finds in a forest, and the closeness to the birdlife.

Completed in 2011, House BM is part of Architecten De Vylder Vinck Taillieu‘s residential portfolio. This 304 square meter concrete house in Ghent, Belgium was built as part of the tree-filled property. Starting from a map with the exact position and diameter of every tree on the property, the architects had to come up with a solution to building the house without interfering with the surroundings. The result is a multifaceted round structure, with an interior courtyard defined by mature trees.

Kern Residence was developed by Semple Brown Design and is a massive, 12,000 square foot project located in Castle Pines, Colorado. One of the main objectives of the architecture team was to create a modern and sophisticated building, one that would mirror the personality of the owners. All these, while adapting to the site’s meticulously manicured landscape: “In order to best respond to the site and relate the structure to its context, the entry point into the house needed to be a full story lower in elevation than the arrival point onto the site, thus resulting in the challenge of gracefully bringing the home owners and visitors alike down to the front door through a landscaped outdoor room. The interior spaces are laid-out in a horizontal format with clean modern lines, carrying the language of the exterior inside. There is a strong and deliberate dialog between the exterior and interior spaces created within this project“. Enjoy this project’s overall appearance?
