Beach House E-03 was designed by Lima-based studio Vortice Arquitectos and is located in Palillos Beach, 72 miles south of Lima, Peru. This modern residence has a total surface of 3,186 square feet and was built on an irregularly-shaped terrain, having unobstructed sea views: “Taking advantage of the slope of the lot, the project features different materials and textures in three levels that work together as a unit, obtaining several space relations between the interior and the outside. According to the requirements of the site, the volumes are designed at different levels like platforms on the ground, emphasizing on the main volume. The central space is closed in three directions, to avoid direct solar entrance and eye contact with the neighboring lands”. The three levels of the residence accommodate five bedrooms (first level), a social area (second level) and a social area extension plus roof deck (third floor). Amin Taha Architects have designed a small apartment building in London, England. The building is finished in an all-encompassing monolithic black render making up all external elements of the building including, parapets, sills, and window reveals. Internally exposed block-work, concrete floors and ceilings with some gypsum partitions the apartments. The client expressed an ambition for utility and unadorned domesticity. The practice’s general strategy is to find a binding aesthetic form with a reduced material palette. The detail illustrates the extension of this logic through the use of fewer, yet standard products to reduce construction junction types, associated specialist trades, their time on site and associated costs.

When I see a home like the Picture House, I start daydreaming how I could personalize it to suit my own needs. This creation of Barilari Architteti is composed of two distinct worlds that come together to shape an interesting residence – the rural influence and the minimalist aesthetic. Located in Ripatransone, Italy, the house spreads over 170 square meters and displays an abstract set of interiors. Natural colors and the use of glass that allow the surroundings and natural light to penetrate the interiors make for an interesting effect – a play of volumes and design lines create the setting for a modern lifestyle enjoyed by its inhabitants – after all, this is their dream house.

Studio Sagan Piechota Architecture completed the Otter Cove Residence, a meandering home perched on a cliff, overlooking the ocean in Carmel, California. Here is more from the architects: “The large area of the house was disguised by splitting the house into two wings — recessing the house into the site and locating nearly half of the space partially underground. The plan-split created a courtyard, the eastern wing providing privacy from Highway One and the western wing buffering the ocean wind. Secondary spaces are located on the lower floor and borrow light from above through three staircases. These spaces provide respite from the panoramic drama on the upper floor. Roofs are visually pulled apart from the walls creating the affect of lightness and lift. Walls are located only where absolutely necessary for privacy or structure and treated as monolithic elements.“. Fluidity is the main attribute of this home, meant to be a natural extension to its landscape.

The Minimum House was designed by studio Scheidt Kasprusch Architekten and is located in Klausdorf, Germany. The 1,615 square foot contemporary home, structured on two levels, is a prototype for a serial holiday residence. According to the architects, the project is offered under the label “minimumhouse” , all furniture and fittings included: “The concept was developed by the ideal of a house with maximum outdoor impressions and also by making full use of the solar yields for the building. The reflections of glass and light make the three-side glassed building shells appear immaterial. The team consisting of architects, engineers, building physicists and executing companies developed a modular building concept, that allows a contemporary open-plan living with high ecological and economic standards“. Some of the sustainable features of this home include a solar system placed on the extensively vegetated flat roof, a soil sensor, ceiling-mounted radiation heating and controlled ventilation.
