1,037 Buildings; 653 Architects; 89 Countries

Published in October 2008, The Phaidon Atlas of 21st Century World Architecture will bring together, in a single volume, over 1,000 of the most outstanding works of architecture built since 2000.

Building on the success of the landmark book The Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture, published by Phaidon Press in 2004, The Phaidon Atlas of 21st Century World Architecture will be an entirely new book. New buildings, architects, images, maps and design will reflect the explosion of creativity and development in architecture throughout the world since the beginning of the 21st Century.

At the beginning of the book, four large-scale world maps will be presented over double-page spreads. Based on new data collated and researched by the London School of Economics, these will provide an unparalleled overview of changing trends in the development of world architecture. One will show the global connections between architects and their projects, and a second, projects in the Atlas and the varying population densities.  A third will focus on the correlation between carbon footprint and climate change, and the final map will feature the increases in construction spending and wealth per capita for each country.

Selected by the editors of Phaidon Press in collaboration with a panel of leading international advisors, every imaginable building type from around the world will be featured in the new Atlas; from small single houses, cafes and wineries, to museums, airports and embassies. Buildings will be generously illustrated by over 4,500 colour photos and drawings, and divided into six world regions; Oceania, Asia, Europe, Africa, North America and South America. .
