This video is a presentation of School of Architecture in Cambridge which is a nationally and internationally respected school of design. It has one of the best facilities from not only all schools of architecture in Canada but in the whole world. It attracts top students and is dedicated to educate the best young architects. During the film you will be able to get familiar with the history of the building and find out in what circumstances it was transformed into the education facility. There will be also a lot of very interesting information about multiple features that differs this building from similar ones.
Rick Haldenby who is the director of the school convinces that this building has a special kind of spirit. When people enter this place they are excited and immediately understand it is a very creative environment and get stimulated by it. Haldenby is convinced that no other school building has this kind of ambience.

The building was originally built to be a silk mill and it had this function till 1950. He thinks that the idea of creating a school of design was very natural. It is situated along the banks of the Grand River and used to be an industrial building with wonderful spaces for design studios, labs and classrooms. Everybody agrees that it was a great idea to make there a school of design. So nice environment is undoubtedly a great place to come up with a nice architectural idea.
From the beginning of this project designers decided that the building will be a publicly accessible. They did not want to create an institution that means “if you are not a member, you are not really welcome”. They was supposed to be a source of inspiration for everybody. Haldenby proudly speaks that they accomplished the mission because they have about two hundred thousand visitors a year. Those people have nothing to do with the building or with the school itself but they just visit it because of the gallery, cafe, film projection or to see what is going on.
